Macleay Valley No Interest Loan Scheme (NILS)
Are you a low income earner with a health care or pension card?
Have you been a resident of the Macleay Valley for 6 months or more?
If so you may be eligible for a No Interest Loan to purchase an essential household item
such as a fridge, freezer, washing machine or bed.
What is NILS?
Macleay Valley No Interest Loan Scheme is designed to enable people on low incomes residing
in the Kempsey Local Government Area to access a loan to purchase essential household items, avoiding the pressure of having to pay interest or other loan charges.
What do we lend for?
Essential household Items such as fridges, washing machines, furniture and medical equipment.
What we don't lend for...
Bond, rent arrears, living expenses such as; food, gas, electricity or telephone bills, cash advancements, loan repayments, second hand goods or car repairs.
Are you eligible?

Have you resided at postcode 2440, 2441 or 2431 for at least the last 6 months?

Are you able to repay the loan?
Are you unable to qualify for any other affordable finance?
Things you will need for your appointment
Proof of identity (drivers license, health care card, any current documents that provide your name and current address)
Details of usual household expenses including your most recent gas, electricity, water and telephone accounts.
Proof of continuous local residency for at least the past 6 months (e.g.. rent receipts etc.
Current tenancy agreement and 4 weeks rent or mortgage repayments.
Centrelink statement and/or pay receipts for 4 weeks
Current statement of other debts (including; credit card, personal loans etc.)
Most recent bank statement
- 2 quotes for the item the application is for.
At the interview:
We will help you to work out a budget and the amount of your loan repayments. We will also assist you to complete any other necessary paperwork if required.
Then:Your application will be considered by the loans committee and you will be notified of the outcome by mail within 2 weeks.
If your loan is approved a cheque will be drawn in favor of the supplier of the goods.

Be tailored to suit your budget
Be debited using Centrepay
Be a minimum of $10.00 per fortnight (depending on the amount of your loan
- Usually be finalised within 12 Months
As you repay your loan, this money becomes available for other low income earners in the community to borrow.
When you repay your loan in full you become eligible for another loan.
You have the right to:

Be provided with the terms, conditions, eligibility criteria and other relevant information in a culturally and linguistically appropriate manner.
Be consulted on needs and preferences.
Be assessed without discrimination
Be informed of the purpose of collecting personal information, have access to that information and be informed of who else has access to it and how it will be kept.
Respect of individuality and freedom from physical, sexual, emotional and financial abuse
Complain without fear of retribution
Information about complaint procedures.
You have the responsibility to:
Ensure that all information provided for loan purposes is true and correct and that no false or misleading information is given
Contact the agency if payment difficulties arise to arrange alternative payment options
Respect the rights of others.
